3D landscape design: see it before it is poured
A landscape is the most expensive thing most people build without ever seeing it first. A 3D model fixes that, and it is where every Brooks project starts.
3D landscape design is a to-scale digital model of your actual property, built from measurements of your lot, before any construction begins. Brooks Landscape and Design uses it on every project because a drawing asks you to imagine the result, and a model shows it to you: the real distances, the real grade change, the real shadow the house throws across the patio at four in the afternoon.
What the model actually contains
The model carries the things that decide whether a yard works. That means the footprint of the house and where its doors and windows land, the fall of the ground across the lot, the trees that are staying, the equipment that has to be reachable, and the sight lines from inside the house looking out. Materials are shown as the materials you would buy, not as generic gray, so a decision about porcelain against travertine is made looking at both.
Planting is shown at a stated size and at maturity. This is the single most useful thing about modeling a garden, because the gap between a five-gallon shrub on planting day and the same shrub in four years is the difference between a scheme that looks sparse and one that closes in and becomes unwalkable.
Why we build it before we quote the work
Changing a wall on screen costs an afternoon. Changing it after the footing is poured costs a demolition, a haul-away and a re-pour. Modeling first is the cheapest risk reduction available on a landscape project, and it is the reason our estimates hold: we are pricing a defined thing rather than an intention.
It also settles disagreements between two people who both live at the property. A plan view is read differently by different people. A walkthrough is not.
What it does not do
A model is not a soils report, a survey, or a structural engineer. It will not tell you what is buried under the yard, it does not replace a geotechnical opinion on a slope, and it cannot promise a permit outcome. It is a design instrument, and it is honest about the difference.
Questions people actually ask
Do I have to commit to construction to get a 3D design?
No. The design is its own piece of work and it is yours. Most people go on to build with us, and some take the model, live with it for a season, and come back later.
How accurate is the model to the finished yard?
Layout, levels and material choices are accurate because they are built from measurements of your lot. Planting is shown at a stated size and at maturity, so the model shows two moments in time rather than pretending a garden is finished on planting day.
Can I make changes after I see it?
That is the point of it. Changes on screen are the cheapest changes on the whole project, so we expect several rounds before anything is priced for construction.
